Cedarville, Ohio- The Cedarville University Department of Nursing and community group "Friendly Neighbors of West John Street" (Springfield, Ohio) have teamed up to offer a free Family Health and Safety Fair on Saturday, Oct. 14. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Southgate Baptist Church, 2111 South Center Boulevard, in Springfield.
Springfield residents can learn how to keep their families safe and healthy through topics such as health screenings, nutrition, neighborhood watch programs (through the City of Springfield Police), disaster preparedness, and children's activities.
Cedarville University nursing faculty Rachel Parrill and Carolyn Barnett have been instrumental in organizing the event. As an instructor of nursing at Cedarville, member of Southgate Baptist Church, and president of the Friendly Neighbors Group, Barnett noted that the fair's outcomes will go beyond educating the community about health and safety issues. "As the president of the Group," she shared, "I wanted our neighborhood to see our group as proactive and not just people who get together to complain about problems. As a Christian, I wanted our church to build stronger connections with the neighborhood and have a positive impact. The Cedarville nursing students need experiences in public and community health. Multiple needs will be met."
