Cedarville, Ohio—According to TIME magazine, total church membership in America now equals 60.3 percent of the population. With the recent rise in church attendance, the need for quality spiritual leaders increases daily. Cedarville University recognizes the need and looks to equip local church leaders through the STEPS program.
STEPS, which stands for Seminar Training to Equip People for Service, is an affordable, practical certificate program designed to walk bi-vocational ministers and lay leaders through the must-haves of successful ministry. Held one Saturday a month for eight months, STEPS focuses on topics such as leadership, discipleship, biblical foundations, shepherding care, small groups, effective teaching and conflict resolution.
Leading the program is Dr. Carl Smith, professor of Bible at Cedarville University. Smith centers his teachings on church history, theology and Christian worldview integration. “We are delighted to partner with local ministries to equip those who serve with the knowledge, skills and resources necessary to excel in their service to Christ.”
He will lead a seminar titled “Biblical and Theological Foundations for Ministry”
Joining Smith is Joy Fagan, assistant professor of ministry and mission. Fagan concentrates her work on gender issues as well as spiritual formation and women’s ministry. She will lead a seminar called “Male and Female in Biblical Perspective.”
Adding to the list of topics is Don Humphreys, director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and associate professor of language and literature. He will teach a session titled “Ministry of Teaching.”
