Cedarville, Ohio—Faith on the football field doesn’t pertain only to Hail Mary passes. Joel Penton, former defensive tackle for The Ohio State Buckeyes, will be visiting Cedarville University to share his personal story - one that combines his passion for public service, spiritual outreach, and four years as a football hero.

Since graduating in 2006 from The Ohio State University, Penton has traveled nationwide as a faith-based speaker, talking to thousands of people about the need for integrity and wise decision-making. He also serves as the community director for the Central Ohio Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Rob Oller, sports reporter for the Columbus Dispatch, says “Joel employs effective conversational skills to send a message that a better future isn’t something that just happens. It requires faith, commitment, and hard work.”

Not only is Penton committed to his faith, but he also has a long history of sharing it. In ninth grade, he started attending a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Bible study at his local high school in Van Wert (Ohio), and soon became a regular leader. Penton continued volunteering with them when he went on to college and worked with Campus Crusade for Christ and Athletes in Action on OSU’s campus.

In 2006 Penton received the 2006 Wuerffel Trophy, an annual award to the college football player who best demonstrates exemplary community service, athletic prowess and academic achievement. Penton is also a four-time Scholar-Athlete award winner.

Penton’s presentation can also be heard on CDR Radio, The PATH® (90.3 FM locally), at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on September 18 as well as online at CDR Radio, The PATH®, is a community-supported media ministry of Cedarville University.
