Cedarville, Ohio—She has detailed the coming of age of two sisters from the town of Fingerbone, crafted a series of essays on modern thought, weaved together the last words of a pastor from Gilead, Iowa, and now Pulitzer Prize-winning author Marilynne Robinson is pushing her plot forward with a speaking engagement at Cedarville University on September 12.

The world first heard Robinson’s fictional voice in 1980 with her award-winning novel “Housekeeping.” Twenty-four years later, Robinson released her second work of fiction, “Gilead,” which received the Pulitzer Prize. Her nonfiction works include “Mother Country: Britain, the Welfare State and Nuclear Pollution” (1989) and “The Death of Adam” (1998).

Robinson holds degrees from Brown University and the University of Washington, where she obtained her Ph.D. She serves on the faculty of The University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop and awaits the release of her third novel, “Home.”

Cedarville University invites the public to hear Robinson’s presentation and perhaps sense what The New York Times Book Review has described of her work: “so precise, so distilled, so beautiful that one doesn’t want to miss any pleasure it might yield.”
