On January 27–28, 2012, worship leaders from across the region gathered at Cedarville University for a time of training and refreshment. This year the Worship 4:24 Conference, co-sponsored by the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio and Cedarville University Department of Music and Worship, drew over 650 attendees, almost double past years’ attendance.
This year featured Gateway Worship leading worship through song, performing in a worship concert Friday evening and speaking at the general sessions on Saturday. Emma Patterson, a freshman worship major at Cedarville, remarked that “The most valuable part of the conference was just being able to meet and interact with the members of Gateway Worship. Having the chance to talk with them and get practical advice made the idea of writing worship songs and going into the worship field that much easier to visualize.”
The four Saturday afternoon breakout sessions included topics including instrumental training, leadership, worship planning, sound mixing, songwriting and video in worship. The sessions were led by experts in the field from Gateway, Lifeway, Yamaha and Cedarville University.
Rockwell Taylor, a junior church music major, summed up the impact of the conference: “Worship 4:24 Conference not only engaged me to think about leading worship with a new perspective, but helped renew my desire to worship God even more passionately than ever before.”
