Marc Clauson, Ph.D., professor of history and law at Cedarville University, was selected to attend a prestigious National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) colloquium this summer at Duke University.

The NEH is an independent federal agency dedicated to promoting and funding humanities studies. Each year, the NEH sponsors dozens of workshops and seminars for high school teachers and college and university professors.

Limited grants and small class sizes make the application process extremely competitive. Clauson was chosen to attend an NEH colloquium based on his credentials, goals for attending the seminar and disciplinary breadth.

The three-week colloquium, which will focus on the history of political economy, is designed to provide research opportunities and enhanced teaching methods for college and university educators. Through the seminar, participants will have access to Duke University research collections with time reserved to pursue individual projects.

According to Clauson, attending the seminar will not just benefit him, but also his students. “Economics is viewed as being mysterious, in part because of its mathematical rigor,” Clauson said. “My time at the colloquium will help me teach my students the study of economic institutions at an understandable level without sacrificing quality.”

The seminar will cover a variety of economic components, ranging from the success and failure of economic approaches to the moral foundations of economic thought.
