Cedarville University will inaugurate Thomas White, Ph.D., as its 10th president on Friday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center. The event is part of the University’s homecoming activities and is open to the public.

“Dr. White brings tremendous energy, wisdom, and experience that will expand the University’s vision and lead us to fulfill our mission for years to come,” said Lorne Scharnberg, chair of the board of trustees. “I am very pleased with the selection of Dr. White as our president.”

Dr. David Jeremiah, senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, chancellor of San Diego Christian College, and a Cedarville University board of trustee member, will deliver the inauguration address. Jeremiah is also the son of former Cedarville president James. T. Jeremiah. He will be joined in the ceremony by former Cedarville presidents Paul Dixon, Ph.D., and William E. Brown, Ph.D. Dr. Paige Patterson, president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary of Fort Worth, Texas, and White’s father, Dr. Jerry White, pastor of Casey Creek Baptist Church of Chesney,  S.C., will also be participating in the program.

“Ultimately, the inauguration is not about me or Cedarville University,” White said, “but about reminding us of God’s purpose for this institution, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and how we can all be ambassadors for Christ no matter our vocation.”

White earned a doctoral degree in systematic theology and a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Anderson University in South Carolina. Prior to beginning his role as president of Cedarville University on July 1, 2013, White served as the vice president for student services and communications as well as associate professor of systematic theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
