Beyond - The Startup Accelerator at Cedarville University

Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is BEYOND measure. – Psalm 147:5 (ESV)

The Startup Accelerator Experience

The Beyond Startup Accelerator at Cedarville University serves to amplify the spirit of entrepreneurship. We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works. His character of creativity and completeness compels us to innovate and enlarge His kingdom through intrepid enterprising and influencing the culture around us. This experience seeks to create an undulating cycle of professional discipleship between students, alumni, and investors with the objective of funding faith-based student/alumni ventures.

Starting a new business can be difficult. Nine out of 10 startups fail within the first three years. The Beyond Startup Accelerator is designed to expose student and alumni businesses to expertise, capital, and investment opportunities.

A business accelerator program gives developing companies access to mentorship, investors, and other support that help them become stable, self-sufficient businesses. Companies that use business accelerators are typically startups that have moved beyond the earliest stages of being established.

As a current Cedarville student or alumni, the Beyond Startup Accelerator offers you a range of support services and funding opportunities. You will be enrolled as a business-founder in a 30-week independent study guided by select faculty and Entrepreneurs in Residence. Each week, you will be assigned a new topic that you will investigate and then present your findings and conclusions in a meeting (virtual or in person). Each topic will lead you through a series of stages, culminating in a final pitch competition. Current students can also earn course credit toward the entrepreneurship minor.

Students and the Beyond Startup Accelerator

The Startup Accelerator is an invitation-only program for students and alumni looking to scale their business. This experience mentors student-generated businesses through a self-guided series of digital materials and expert mentorship with our Entrepreneurs in Residence (EiRs). Students enrolled in the entrepreneurship minor will automatically take part in the first installment of the accelerator experience, with validated student startups continuing on through the remainder of the program. Student-founders can earn course credit toward the entrepreneurship minor. Students are also encouraged to participate in the Pitch, a competition in which students present their business ideas to a panel of judges, with the winner receiving $1,000.

Alumni and the Beyond Startup Accelerator

We are inviting Cedarville alumni with investible businesses to take part in the Accelerator experience. This out-of-classroom, self-guided program shepherds business owners/founders through a series of lean startup principles designed to uncover areas of improvement within the business model. This process naturally streamlines mechanisms actuating investment opportunities. Accelerator startups will have access to Entrepreneurs in Residence, subject matter experts, and pitch competitions with real investors looking to expand their portfolios.

Entrepreneurs in Residence

Entrepreneurs in Residence (EiRs) are handpicked from among seasoned business owners, accredited investors, and alumni. Members belonging to this prestigious position work alongside founders in the Accelerator providing guidance and inspiration sourced from years of experience in their respective industries.
