Cedarville Mining Company Open for Business
Cedarville University and the Creation Museum have teamed up to open a new exhibit.
As part of a partnership between Cedarville University and the Creation Museum, a new exhibit, the Cedarville University Mining Company, has officially opened.
The exhibit was designed by John Whitmore, Ph.D., professor of geology, and members of the Creation Museum design team. The exhibit features a panning sluice that gives guests an interactive mining experience. Guests can mine for gemstones and fossils, while learning about geology through a variety of workshops.
Headquartered in Petersburg, Kentucky, the Creation Museum features more than 24 exhibits, but the Cedarville Mining Company is the first that has been part of a collaboration between the University and the museum.
“I have been in connection with several people from the Creation Museum,” said Whitmore. “We were discussing different ways that we could collaborate, and that is how this idea took shape.”
Whitmore hopes the exhibit will create more awareness for Cedarville’s geology program. Currently, Cedarville is the only university with a literal, young-earth, creation-based geology degree. “We hope that this exhibit will get young people excited about geology,” said Whitmore, “so that more will pursue studying geology in the future.”
Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,711 undergraduate, graduate and online students in more than 100 areas of study.
