Experience Gained Through Volunteer Work with AACC
Students and faculty from the psychology department will attend this year's AACC conference.
Students from Cedarville University’s psychology program will continue their longstanding tradition of volunteering at the biennial American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) world conference at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee from September 23-26.
Cedarville has been sending student volunteers to the conference for over 20 years thanks to generous donations of alumni, which cover much of the cost of the trip for Cedarville’s contingent. A total of 20 students, along with four faculty and one staff member, will attend this year’s AACC conference.
“We’re very fortunate to have generous alumni who understand the importance of this experience for our students,” said Charles Dolph, Ph.D., senior professor of psychology. “Our students provide many needed services at the conference, but they also get the chance to attend seminars and network with the top Christian counselors and psychologists in the world.”
Students may aid at sales tables for authors and musicians, assist speakers in the green room, provide security and work tables in the conference’s merchandise area.
This year’s impressive list of speakers includes former Arkansas governor and 2016 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, Joni and Friends founder Joni Eareckson Tada and “Duck Dynasty” star Jase Robertson.
In addition, attendees will be treated to a series of concerts and comedy events featuring some of the nation’s top Christian artists including Jeremy Camp, Building 429, Chonda Pierce and Big Daddy Weave.
“Getting to meet some of the top people in various fields of Christian counseling and psychology, along with famous speakers and artists, is something that really helps in networking,” said Dolph. “Not only do our students get to meet and interact with those folks, they’re able to obtain internships and learn more about the top Christian graduate schools in counseling and psychology.
