Dual Enrollment Provides a Leg Up

by Ryan Bower, Assistant Director of Public Relations – February 24, 2016

Cedarville's College Now program is a great chance for high school students to earn dual credit.

High school students who desire to get a jump on college courses have a great opportunity at Cedarville University. Through the "Dual Enrollment" program, students can learn from college professors while earning college credit.

Through the program, students earn both high school and college credits through on-campus, online and summer courses. As a result, students can lessen the financial burden of college tuition by taking advantage of the lower-cost courses. The cost of the program at Cedarville University is equivalent to community college pricing.

Students who are residents of Ohio may also be eligible to take courses for free through the state’s College Credit Plus program.

The program also benefits Cedarville University; last year 239 students participated in the program and 188 of these students were accepted for full-time enrollment (123 enrolled) the following year at Cedarville. This 98.9 percent acceptance rate is significantly higher than the normal 74.8 percent rate for students who do not attend the Dual Enrollment program.

This year, 273 students are taking advantage of the Dual Enrollment program; 198 (99.5 percent) have been accepted for full-time enrollment for the 2016-17 academic year.

"Dual Enrollment is a great opportunity for motivated high school students to get a head start on their college career," said Roscoe Smith, associate vice president for university admissions. “Because the courses are online, students from around the world are also able to participate, which helps to widen Cedarville’s reach and appeal."
