Marketing major travels the world through international business program

Many dream of traveling the world, but few actually do. This summer, Aubrey Brush, a senior marketing major at Cedarville University, made that dream a reality. Brush traveled to 13 different countries in Europe and Asia with the International Business Institute (IBI).

“We saw two of the seven wonders of the world in one summer,” said Brush, “which is something a lot of people have not done in their entire lifetime.”
IBI is a rigorous international academic program that teaches international business-related classes while students are abroad. Classes are taught through intensive class periods, corporate visits and cultural experiences.

Brush first heard about IBI when her professor, Dan Sterkenburg, associate professor of international business at Cedarville, suggested the experience to her class. Brush saw IBI as an incredible opportunity to travel the world and finish her international business minor, and she was not let down.

“You would never normally be able to get the kinds of opportunities I got this summer for the price I paid for it,” said Brush.

Thanks to Cedarville’s special partnership with IBI, transferring credits and grades was easy. “Most schools just transfer credits,” said Brush, “but, because of Cedarville’s partnership with IBI, all the letter grades transfer right back to the school.” Thanks to the class compatibility, Brush will be graduating a semester early.

One of Brush’s favorite parts of her world business trek was watching the Euro Cup soccer competition unfold.

“Every place we went in Europe,” said Brush, “the city centers would have huge screens where everyone would come and watch the Euro Cup games.”

The pinnacle of Brush’s exposure to Europe’s love for soccer came when her group was in Paris, this year’s site of the Euro Cup. Brush remembers standing at the base of the Eiffel Tower in crowds of thousands as they watched the games on gigantic screens.

“The whole city of Paris had a different feel to it because the Euro Cup was going on,” she explained.

Throughout her trip, Brush visited Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, England, India and China.
