Porter, McClain and Tse will chair academic departments for 2017-18 academic year

Cedarville University recently announced the appointment of three academic department chairs at the university faculty meeting April 21. Associate professor of vocal music Beth Porter and assistant professor of psychology Dr. Luke Tse were reappointed chair over the music and worship department and the psychology department, respectively. Professor of chemistry Dr. Mark McClain was appointed chair over the department of science and mathematics.

All three faculty members view their roles as a chance to serve and lead their departments in the upcoming school year.

“Leading my department has been a growing experience for me as an administrator, learning how to lead and serve simultaneously,” said Tse after his fourth year as department chair. “I’ve learned to seek God's guidance and to rely on him on a heightened level. Leading means fulfilling what he has in store for me at this time.”

In the coming year, the departments look forward to meeting their new freshmen students and supporting them during their time at Cedarville. The chairs recognize that faith in God will lead the students, faculty and staff during the new school year.

“Everything I’m looking forward to next year involves students,” said Porter, chair of her department since 2008. “I am excited to welcome the new students and pour into their lives.”

It will be McClain’s first year as department chair, and he looks forward to improving the program, supporting students and encouraging the faculty while helping to solve problems, manage resources and promote biblical values in the math and science department.

“As a 1989 alumnus who has taught chemistry at Cedarville for 20 years, I'm thrilled to lead a department I know and love,” said McClain. “God has greatly blessed this university, and I want to use my gifts to further its mission for his glory.”
