Mike Spencer, midwest director of the Life Training Institute, will give a talk to CU students and faculty on Feb. 27.

Cedarville University Students for Life (SFL) will host pro-life apologist Mike Spencer on February 27 at 7:30 p.m. in room 101 of the School of Biblical and Theological Studies for a presentation open to students and faculty on “The Church’s Response to Injustice.”

Spencer, of Celina, Ohio, is the midwest director of the Life Training Institute (LTI). He will speak about the responsibility of the Christian church to act against the injustice of abortion.

Spencer served as a pastor for 23 years before joining LTI, and now travels the country promoting the mission of LTI to “equip Christians to make a persuasive case for life in the public square,“ one audience at a time.

“We are bringing Spencer to show that we have a responsibility to act on our biblical beliefs,” said Nicholas Kallis, a sophomore biblical studies student from Columbus, Ohio, and president of Cedarville’s SFL. “If we believe abortion is murder, that the 60 million unborn lives that have been taken since 1973 is a holocaust, then we should act on that belief.”

In addition to providing Cedarville students with events like this, SFL also helps students live out their beliefs through various outreach programs, including prayer vigils and sidewalk counseling outside abortion clinics where students share the love of Christ with women and men, in hopes of saving a life. SFL has also raised money to support local pregnancy resource centers.

“We as students are taking the initiative to define ourselves as the pro-life generation, to stand for the Bible and act on our beliefs,” said Kallis. “Cedarville is a great place to start because, through our students, we are connected to many different churches that can be influenced through us. We’re taking up this fight for ourselves.”
