Regional pharmacy chain hopes the gift will encourage future pharmacists to help underserved communities.

Fruth Pharmacy, a family-owned company with headquarters in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, has donated $5,000 to the Cedarville University School of Pharmacy.

The money will be used to provide scholarships for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in pharmacy. Cedarville University is one of seven professional pharmacy programs in Ohio. Students can earn a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy, all within six years.

Fruth Pharmacy began supporting the School of Pharmacy in 2015 by establishing a scholarship for students wanting to pursue a career in community pharmacy. Fruth hopes to encourage future pharmacists to help underserved communities.

“Cedarville’s school of pharmacy develops future pharmacists who can meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients,” said Melanie Sherman, Fruth Pharmacy’s advertising and graphic specialist. “It is important to Fruth to encourage and support students in the field of pharmacy, and Fruth wants to see pharmacists in the field that are prepared to meet the needs of patients.”

Fruth Pharmacy serves communities in 31 locations throughout West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.

“Fruth Pharmacy has been an ongoing partner and supporter for the school of pharmacy for many years,” said Dr. Marc Sweeney, dean of the Cedarville school of pharmacy. “As a relatively new school of pharmacy, we have appreciated Fruth Pharmacy's early advocacy of our program.”
