Martin Luther King Jr. Day Chapel: Christian History-Maker to Speak

Dr. McFarland named one of the nation’s 70 most influential black Christian history-makers living today.

Dr. Allen McFarland, senior pastor of Calvary Evangelical Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Virginia, will speak in chapel at Cedarville University on Monday, Jan. 21, as part of the school’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance. Chapel begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.

In 2012, the Black Christian News Network named McFarland one of the nation’s 70 most influential black Christian history-makers living today.

McFarland is the vice-chairman for Liberty University’s board of trustees. He is also a board member for Kids Across America, the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism, Atlantic Shores Christian Schools and Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia. McFarland is also the former president of the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship Association.

In 1984, McFarland founded Angelos Bible College in Portsmouth, Virginia, and is currently its chancellor.

McFarland has a radio ministry, “The Joyous Sound,” that is broadcast on a local Portsmouth, Virginia, AM radio station. In 1995, McFarland established the Joyous Sound Education and Enrichment Center, which currently enrolls children, pre-K through third grade.

McFarland received his bachelor's degree in pastoral studies from Liberty University and his Master of Divinity, Doctor of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary.
