Just 12 days after this podcast was recorded, Dr. Michael Firmin, Distinguished Professor of Psychology, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on October 27 and went to be with the Lord.

With full support and agreement from his family, we share this podcast today.

He became a faculty member at Cedarville University in 1998. Beyond his role as a professor, Dr. Firmin practiced as a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist and served Berea Bible Church in Springfield, Ohio, as a preaching pastor. He authored 120 peer-reviewed research papers and was the editor of a professional journal.

Dr. Firmin poured into students, helping them prepare research for presentation and publication. “My mission has been to invest my life in students so that they achieve their potential,” he said during the podcast. “As they impact others, my ministry multiplies. I want them to go beyond me.”

Dr. Firmin was rigorously committed to biblical integration and studied the Word of God and Koine Greek in great depth. His high standards, tremendous array of interests, and dedication to scholarship were unrivaled. His commitment to the success of Cedarville was unequaled.

Cancer has greatly impacted Dr. Firmin’s family, and this shaped his view of life. His comments near the end of the broadcast are a powerful reminder that he was living life with his heart and mind set on eternity. Are we?

“When I wake up, I tell God I will do my best: ‘This is Your day for Your honor and Your glory, because I might not have tomorrow,’” he said. “Then my record will be in the book, and for me it will be time for heaven.”
