Cybersecurity Major and Nursing Leadership Certificate are New Programs

by Public Relations Staff – January 31, 2020

Students are eligible to enroll beginning this fall.

Cedarville University recently announced a new Bachelor of Science in Cyber Operations, the first of its kind in Ohio, and the addition of a nursing leadership graduate certificate to the school’s Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) program.

Both were approved by Cedarville University’s board of trustees at its January meetings and have recently received Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) approvals.

Classes for both programs will begin this fall.

The cyber operations major will consist of eight new courses, along with other required computer science and computer engineering courses. A unique aspect to the major is a required nontechnical class.

“Creating a stand-alone major is a way for us to continue to invest in our cyber program,” noted Dr. Seth Hamman, associate professor of computer science and director of the Center for the Advancement of Cybersecurity. “We want to lead in this area, as many other cyber-related majors will be springing up across the country in the near future.”

The new nursing leadership certificate joins the family of other nursing graduate certificates, which includes nursing education and global public health nursing. Each certificate includes four specialized courses, which can be added to one of Cedarville’s five M.S.N. focus areas or taken after completing an M.S.N. from any accredited school.

“The Graduate Certificate in Nursing Leadership will prepare students to gain advanced knowledge in quality and safety, organizational systems and strategic decision-making,” said Dr. Kim Higginbotham, assistant dean and director of graduate nursing programs, said. “Graduates will be equipped to effectively lead within a healthcare environment in roles such as nursing administration, nonprofit organization leadership and leadership in acute care and primary care settings.”
