The Wall Street Journal released the 2022 installment of its annual college rankings, and Cedarville University was ranked among the top schools in student engagement.

Cedarville was ranked fourth nationally in The Wall Street Journal’s ranking of universities with the best student engagement. Cedarville is the only university in Ohio among the top 10. Bowling Green State University and Miami University tied for 12th.

Dordt University and Samford University tied for first on the list, while Harvard placed third. Cedarville tied for fourth with seven other schools: the University of Michigan, the University of Notre Dame, Purdue University, the University of Southern California, Baylor University, Oral Roberts University, and Brigham Young University.

“Student engagement is a key component of the Cedarville community and represents the heart of our faculty and staff,” said Dr. Thomas Mach, vice president for academics.

The ranking is based on a score of how engaged students are with professors, peers, and their educational experience. To create a balanced, accurate approach, the ranking uses a combination of 15 individual performance indicators to reflect the institution’s overall engagement.

The ranking is intended to guide students and families as they research colleges and universities.

Cedarville’s faculty and staff are deeply committed to their students, so the high ranking was not a surprise to Mach. “Cedarville faculty and staff count it a privilege to help prepare students for the call God has placed upon their lives,” he said, “and that service takes place inside and outside of the classroom.”

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 4,715 undergraduate, graduate, and online students in more than 150 areas of study.
