Cedarville Stories Podcast: "Nothing Spectacular" Ministers from Statehouse to NHL

by Clem Boyd, Communication Content Manager – January 21, 2021

Whether it’s legislators, athletes, or college students, Brian Hanson’s goal is the same: evangelize and disciple.

Whether it’s legislators in the Ohio Statehouse, National Hockey League athletes, or innovative and industrial design students, Brian Hanson’s goal is the same: evangelize, disciple, encourage, and pray. And through his ministry, God has provided remarkable impact.

Is all this because Brian possesses a special talent or speaking gift? He would shy away from that idea. Brian would say he’s just trying to be faithful.

Brian and his wife, Mandi, ministered to youth for 23 years at three different congregations in Ohio. Next, because the Lord had him available at the right time and place to pray at the opening of the Ohio Senate one day, a door was opened for him to disciple legislators and their staff at the Ohio Statehouse.

Brian also leads Capitol Ministries efforts in 32 nations’ capitals across the globe.

Next, because of a connection with the Columbus Blue Jackets NHL hockey organization, Brian has been blessed to serve as chaplain there and help a number of players put their faith in Christ.

On top of all that, Brian now serves as chaplain for junior and senior Innovative and Industrial Design students at the International Center for Creativity in Columbus.

“There’s nothing spectacular about me,” Brian says in the podcast. “But I hope that when I stand before the Lord on that day, I hope that He’ll look at me and say, “Brian, you don’t bring much to the table, but you’ve sure been faithful.”
