Cedarville Stories Repodcast: Still Standing on The Rock Through a Wave of Trials
This week on the Cedarville Stories podcast, we revisit the powerful story of Dr. Angie Mickle who withstood a tsunami of trials that rocked her faith but instead of sinking in sand, her faith stayed strong on The Rock.
Dr. Mickle was diagnosed in late 2018 with what was thought to be a malignant brain tumor. On January 7, 2019, surgeons removed the tumor during a nine-hour surgery. The tumor turned out benign. But three days after the surgery, Dr. Mickle had a stroke.
While recovering at home in February 2019, her seven-month-old grandson suddenly stopped breathing. Dr. Mickle desperately sought to revive him, but her precious grandson went to be with Jesus.
This tsunami of tragedy nearly crushed Dr. Mickle’s typically rock-steady and strong faith. She began questioning Jesus and wondering aloud, through many tears, how He could allow so much suffering and pain to enter her life. Yet, even in the middle of these painful questions, the Lord met her over and over. Her trust and love for Jesus grew deeper because of the pain.
Dr. Mickle’s heart-wrenching and inspiring story causes anyone who hears it to look more closely at where they are with the Lord and how much they truly trust Him. The way she gives glory to God in the midst of her tragedy is challenging and inspiring.

Dr. Mickle is also a leader in the Air National Guard, where she serves as a major. She is a nurse practitioner and Chief Nursing Administrator for the 121st Medical Group at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio.
God has blessed Dr. Mickle with a sense of humor through her trials. She believed the Lord called her to name her tumor, and she landed on “Joy,” in view of James 1:2-4. The tumor had likely been growing in her brain for 15-20 years, doctors told her.
