About the Workshop

The purpose of this workshop is to promote and advance undergraduate cybersecurity education in Ohio. We will accomplish this by sharing ideas and resources and by building a tighter network of cybersecurity educators. Everyone will leave more connected, better equipped, and encouraged. Kirk Herath, Cybersecurity Strategic Advisor to Gov. DeWine, will join the group for dinner on Thursday evening and share some remarks about the importance of undergraduate cybersecurity education to the state.

Kirk Herath

Kirk Herath (Special Guest Speaker)

In 2022 Kirk Herath was appointed by Gov. DeWine to the role of Cybersecurity Strategic Advisor, a new position created within his administration. Prior to this role, for over two decades, Herath was responsible for all legal issues at a Fortune 100 financial services company impacting various cybersecurity matters. He was responsible for corporate privacy policy, data and security incident management and implementing privacy across all lines of business.

Seth Hamman

Seth Hamman (Workshop Co-Chair)

Seth Hamman is the director of the cyber program at Cedarville University where he serves as an Associate Professor of Cyber Operations and as the Director of the Center for the Advancement of Cybersecurity. Seth is active in the national cybersecurity education community and is the co-chair of the NSA's Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations Community of Practice and oversees the Knowledge Units criterion for the designation.

Kenneth Atchinson

Kenneth Atchinson (Workshop Co-Chair)

Kenneth Atchinson is the lead of the cybersecurity analyst program at BW. He also coaches BW's winning "CyberSec" team. Under his expert leadership, Baldwin Wallace University cybersecurity teams have achieved repeated success in local, regional and national competitions, including first place in the 2019 Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) Midwest Regionals and a strong showing in the nationals.

This event is open to faculty at Ohio colleges and universities interested in cybersecurity education. Join us to learn more about:

  • Best practices in cybersecurity education including curriculum resources and cyber ranges
  • Organizing and coaching cyber teams and the cyber competition landscape
  • Cyber grants and funding opportunities
  • Cyber designations and accreditations
  • Solutions to the challenges of finding and hiring cyber faculty

There is no charge to attend this event. Travel expenses, including one night in a hotel, will be reimbursed up to $400.

Location

The conference is being held on the campus of Cedarville University in southwest Ohio. Upon arrival on campus, you will proceed to the main entrance of the Stevens Student Center (SSC) to check in. Enter campus at the main entrance off of SR 72 and on to University Blvd. The SSC will be the building just past the construction on your left. Park in any white-striped parking space.

About Cedarville's Cyber Program

Cedarville offers a BS in cyber operations and an MBA with a cybersecurity management concentration. The National Security Agency (NSA) has named Cedarville University a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations and a National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense. Cedarville is one of just two schools that holds both NSA designations and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) Cybersecurity accreditation.
