Student Assistant

IT Tier-1 Support Student Assistants primarily serve as IT Help Desk support representatives in the Information Technology Service Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. IT Help Desk duties include answering multi-line phones, resolving user issues and requests, transferring calls, greeting walk-in guests, and submitting IT service request and incident tickets via the ServeCU ticket system. Student Assistants are also responsible for the oversight of the two open-access computer labs in the ENS and BTS during evenings and weekends. Primary responsibilities in the labs are to answer calls to the IT Help Desk, help students and other customers with technical questions, reset CedarNet passwords, and monitor the lab printers for paper and toner. Additional duties include maintaining the unattended computer labs and CedarPrint stations across campus. Student Assistants must be able to drive a golf cart and lift and carry a 50# carton of printer paper. Professionalism, customer service, and communication skills are required. Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows 10 is preferred. Training is provided. Sophomores and Juniors preferred.

Student Network Technician

This student will work with the Network Engineer and Director of Networking to help maintain CedarNet. Jobs will include, but are not limited to: responding to network related service requests; working with network cabling, switches, servers and fiber optics; and maintaining and updating documentation. General computer skills are required. Experience with hand/power tools is a plus. Network training will be provided.

Student Technical Writer

Primary duties of the Student Technical Writer include updating and writing technical Knowledge Base articles in the ServeCU IT Service Management system (cedarville.edu/servecu). Other duties may include updating and writing new IT student worker training materials, assisting with technical training classes, creating scripts and video editing of custom online training videos, training other IT student workers, and projects as assigned by IT Staff. In addition, the Student Technical Writer will perform all duties of the Student Assistant position including answering multi-line phones, resolving issues and requests, transferring calls, greeting walk-in guests, resetting CedarNet passwords, and submitting IT service requests in ServeCU. Most shifts are scheduled between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the IT Service Center; however, the Student Technical Writer may also serve as a Student Assistant in the computer labs during evenings and weekends if needed. Professionalism, customer service, and strong oral and written communication skills are required. One semester working as an IT Student Assistant is preferred. Training is provided. Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and Windows 10 is preferred. Professional Writing and Information Design, English, or Journalism majors are preferred. Job candidates will be asked to submit technical writing samples.

Tier 2 Technical Services Student

Maintains, manages and supports all University owned PCs including faculty, staff and classrooms. Oversee the campus inventory and repairs. In addition, responsibilities include setting up appropriate AV equipment in classrooms for faculty use and for events on the University campus and responding to technical problems with the equipment on site. Work hours can include early mornings, daytime, evening and some weekend service hours.

Tier-1 Student Technician

The IT Tier-1 Student Technician is the first line of support for personally-owned computer hardware and software needs of the University community. Technicians are primarily responsible to diagnose and repair software and hardware related issues on computers and other devices personally owned by university students, faculty, and staff, as well as monitor and update the ServeCU (TeamDynamix) ticketing system. Professionalism, communication skills, and willingness to provide friendly customer service are required, as well as general knowledge of computers (in terms of both software and hardware). Students in their sophomore and junior years are preferred. Training is provided. Work shifts are between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the IT Service Center (formerly known as TechStop) in the Tyler Digital Communications Building.
