Taking a Stand for Religious Freedom

Taking a Stand for Religious Freedom

September 19, 2014

Religious freedom is under attack around the world. Whether it is Iraqis' facing persecution and death for their faith or our own government's encroachment upon historic Constitutional provisions, we are living in a day where issues of religious liberty are confronting believers almost daily on the evening news.

As a Christian university, Cedarville University is committed to equipping our students, faculty, staff, and constituents to address critical issues from a thoughtful, biblical perspective.

To this end, we are pleased to host the Religious Freedom Summit in partnership with the Chuck Colsen Center for Christian Worldview this October. In CU Around Campus, a monthly publication for Cedarville faculty and staff, President Thomas White, wrote, “On October 9-10, 2014, we will have one of the most important discussions ever held on the campus of Cedarville UniversityThe Religious Freedom Summit.”

The exciting part—you are invited in person or via live streaming on our website. Join our faculty, staff, and entire student body for this important event as we welcome nationally recognized leaders and speakers, such as Hobby Lobby’s President Steve Green; John Stonestreet, Speaker and Fellow of the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview;  Mindy Belz, Editor of World Magazine; Russell Moore, President of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission; and Jennifer Marshall, the Director of Public Policy at the Heritage Foundation. Each speaker will guide us in discussing the meaning and the means of preserving our religious freedoms.

In his article to faculty and staff, Dr. White continued, “True religious freedom is not the establishment of any one religion. True religious freedom seeks an open marketplace of ideas where the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ may be freely presented.” In other words, religious freedom allows Cedarville to do what it was commissioned to do at its inception: educate students for the Word of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ. We take our commissioning seriously as we seek to train tomorrow’s leaders to live and work in a culture increasingly opposed to Christian liberty.

Join us as we take a stand for religious freedom October 9-10. Plan to attend the Religious Freedom Summit hosted here at Cedarville. For those unable to attend, we will be live streaming sessions and posting recordings following the conference. However you are able to participate, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and join us in standing up to defend religious liberty for generations to come.
