ACT or SAT: 7 Key Differences

October 3, 2017

SAT ACTLike most universities, Cedarville accepts both ACT and SAT scores. So, how do you decide which is best for your student?

The Princeton Review, a test preparation and college admission services company, provides seven key differences between the two exams that may help you decide:

  1. ACT questions tend to be more straightforward and easier to understand.
  2. The SAT has a stronger emphasis on vocabulary.
  3. The ACT has a Science section, while the SAT does not.
  4. The ACT tests more advanced math concepts.
  5. The ACT Writing Test is optional on test day, but required by many schools. (Cedarville University does not require the Writing Test.)
  6. The SAT is broken up into more sections.
  7. The ACT is more of a "big picture" exam.
