Overview

Illuminare is a one-day Christian education and social work conference designed to help K–12 educators, administrators, social workers, and students connect their daily work to a biblical worldview. The day brings everyone together for training and conversations that speak to the cultural challenges facing today’s schools, families, and communities.

Why Attend Illuminare

Attend Illuminare to gain training that speaks directly to your role — whether you’re an educator, social work professional, or student. Breakout tracks and keynote sessions will help you:

  • Strengthen your leadership approach
  • Encourage thoughtful engagement in your school or agency
  • Support students and families with clarity and care
  • Build confidence in decision-making and communication
  • Collaborate across disciplines, schools, and ministries
  • Develop partnerships that extend your impact

In addition to serving educators and social work professionals, the conference welcomes students from kindergarten through high school.

Breakout sessions are designed with age-appropriate tracks so younger students, older students, and adults can each engage content that fits their stage of learning.

The day also includes opportunities for students to explore Cedarville’s campus and get a firsthand look at what it’s like to study in a Christ-centered university community.

A central focus of the event is exploring what it looks like to represent God well in your school, agency, or workplace. You’ll engage in keynote sessions designed for the full audience and participate in breakout tracks tailored to your specific role.

Throughout the day, you’ll gain actionable strategies, leadership guidance, and Gospel-rooted encouragement to support the work you do and strengthen the places you learn, teach, lead, and serve.

You’ll leave with insight and tools you can take back to your classroom, agency, or community — equipping you to serve with clarity and confidence.

Cy Smith
Dr. Cy Smith

Superintendent, Mansfield Christian School

Dr. Smith began his career at Mansfield Christian School in 1992, when he was hired to teach American history and government. His dedication to MCS went outside the classroom, as he coached basketball, baseball, and softball while also serving as a class advisor. In 1995, Dr. Smith became the Assistant High School Principal and was later appointed to the principal’s position in 1998, becoming the school’s first alumnus to serve as an administrator. He advanced to become only the eighth Superintendent at MCS (since 1961) in the spring of 2008.

As Superintendent, Dr. Smith championed a capital fundraising campaign from 2009–11 for a new elementary wing that includes classrooms, offices, and a multipurpose room. Among numerous projects, his capital and facility upgrade efforts include soccer field lights, gym bleachers, gym scoreboards and floors, a baseball field, locker rooms, electric signage, and a collaborative learning center.

In his tenure, Dr. Smith has created new core values and key behaviors for employees to guide them in achieving the mission and vision while shaping the school’s culture. He has also led numerous faculty studies in professional development (for CEUs) as well as board retreats for strategic planning. As a spokesperson for both MCS and Christian education in the area, Dr. Smith frequently speaks at local churches, civic organizations, community events, and media outlets, such as “Christian Education Minute” for the school’s radio station, WVMC.

In 2014, Dr. Smith led Mansfield Christian to be named among the Top 50 Christian High Schools in America by TheBestSchools.org.

His favorite Bible verse is Philippians 3:8, "Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
