Students who plan on pursuing careers in ministry, law, education, business, or politics are encouraged to join the team. Team members, whether first year or returning, may apply for a scholarship.

Continuing Student Eligibility

Debate Team Scholarships for returning team members are awarded as follows: priority consideration is given to students serving in a formal leadership role (e.g., team captain); subsequent scholarships are then considered for the other team members. Scholarships generally range from $500 - $3,000. To receive the scholarship the team member must inform the Director of Debate of his or her intent to return at the end of the season (the third week of April). The Director of Debate will award the scholarship the following fall after the student returns to the team. No application required. The Director of Debate will determine amount of the scholarship based on the following criteria:

  • GPA of at least 2.5
  • Full-time enrollment required (minimum 12 credit hours per semester)
  • Level of success in previous year(s) of competition
  • Willingness to coach/mentor less experienced team members
