CedarPrint: Wireless Set Up

Before you start…

With the university’s new CedarPrint wireless printing, students, faculty, and staff now have the ability to print from a personal computer to a network printer. This computer help page will explain how to set up your personal computer for wireless printing.

Warning!

To use CedarPrint from a wireless device, you must be connected to cu-secure. For help connecting to the cu-secure wireless, see these setup instructions.

Step 1: Install the PaperCut NG Client (Windows & Mac)

If at any point during the following process you are asked to allow the program to make changes to your computer, click “Yes.”

Windows:

  1. Navigate to cedarville.edu/spcsoftware in your browser.
  2. Click “Windows: CedarPrint – Client Install”. (this will download a .zip file)
  3. Navigate to the folder you just downloaded, Double-click to launch the unzip program and click "extract all"
  4. Return to the unzipped folder and Double-click “client-local-install.exe” to launch the installation wizard.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the client.

Mac:

  1. Download the CedarPrint client from cedarville.edu/spcsoftware.
  2. Double-click the folder "CedarPrint-Client-Install-Mac.zip" to unzip the folder.
  3. Double-click the file to launch it.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the print client.
  5. When prompted, type in your username and password.
  6. Click and hold the PCClient dock icon.  Choose “Options,” then “Open at Login”.

Step 2: Install the CedarPrint Wireless Printer (Windows)

Once you have installed the client, you must configure the wireless printer on your personal laptop or residence hall computer.

Windows 8: Manual Installation

  1. Press the Windows [Start] button on the keyboard.
  2. Type in Control Panel, and press Enter.
  3. Click on Devices and Printers.
  4. Click Add a Printer.
  5. Click "the printer that I want isn't listed" at the bottom of the window.
  6. Check "Select a shared printer by name"
  7. type http://printshop3.cedarville.edu:631/ipp/CedarPrint in the text field, and click Next (the Add Printer Wizard will open)
  8. Under Manufacture, choose HP
  9. Under Printers, choose HP LaserJet 4250 PCL6
  10. Click OK to add the printer.
  11. Make sure the "Make this my default printer" box is checked.
  12. Click Next, then Finish.

Windows 7: Manual Installation

  1. Open the Devices and Printers window (Windows [Start] > “Devices and Printers”).
  2. Click “Add a printer”.
  3. Click “Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer”.
  4. Click "The printer that I want isn't listed".
  5. Check “Select a shared printer by name”.
  6. Type “http://printshop3.cedarville.edu:631/ipp/CedarPrint” into the text field > Click “Next”.
  7. The “Add Printer Wizard” window will open. Under “Manufacturer” choose “HP.” Under “Printers” choose “HP LaserJet 4250 PCL6”.
  8. Click “OK.” The printer will be added.
  9. Click “Next” > Click “Finish”.

Windows XP: Manual Installation

  1. Open the "Printers and Faxes" Window from the Start menu.
  2. Click “Add Printer” > “Next”.
  3. Select "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer".
  4. Select "Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network".
  5. Enter “http://printshop3.cedarville.edu/ipp/CedarPrint” as the URL.
  6. Answer the default printer question.
  7. Click "Finish".

Step 2: Install the CedarPrint Wireless Printer (Mac)

Once you have installed the client, you must configure the wireless printer on your personal laptop or residence hall computer.

Mac OS X

  1. Open "System Preferences".
  2. Click "Print & Scan".
  3. Click the "+" (plus symbol).
  4. Click "IP" at the top of the dialog box.
  5. Select “Internet Printing Protocol – IPP” from the "Protocol:" list.
  6. Type "printshop3.cedarville.edu" into the "Address:" field.
  7. Type "ipp/CedarPrint" into the "Queue:" field.
  8. Type “CedarPrint” into the "Name:" field.
  9. Change “Print Using:” to “Generic PostScript Printer”.
  10. Click "Add".
  11. Click "Continue".

CedarPrint Locations

There are currently twelve CedarPrint stations around campus:

  • Apple commuter lounge
  • BTS 111 computer lab
  • BTS atrium (by the echeck stations)
  • Callan hallway (by the echeck stations)
  • DMC lobby (across from the Journalism lab)
  • ENS second floor lobby
  • HSC second floor lobby
  • HSC third floor lobby
  • Library alcove (by the echeck stations)
  • SSC upper level lobby (across from Admissions)
  • SSC lower level hallway (by the game room)
  • Tyler first floor (by the echeck stations)
