Local Administrator Login

Before you start…

Most classroom software that you will need is available from the "_CedarNet" menus (on University-owned computers only).

Occasionally, you may want to install software on your office or residence hall computer that is for your use only, including drivers for your personal printer, scanner, copier, or camera. This is a "local" software installation and may require administrator rights to install.

Install Local Software from a CD or DVD

Note: These instructions do not apply to any desktop or laptop that is not owned by Cedarville University. Also, these instructions will not work in a computer lab nor computer classroom (including techcarts) because classlab systems have a standard image of software on each workstation. Faculty may request installation of a licensed program in a computer lab or classroom using a computer service request

  1. Load the CD or DVD into the CD drive.
  2. Click the [Start] Button > Click [Computer] > Locate the "D:" drive.
  3. Right-click the "D:" drive > Select "Explore."
  4. Locate the executable (.exe) file > Right-click > Select "Run as...." If you receive an error message "Invalid drive H:" during the installation process, submit a CSR.
  5. Type the word Administrator as the username.
  6. Locate a white sticker on your computer tower. On the sticker, you will see a six-digit number underneath the barcode.
  7. Type the six-digit number in the password box > Press [Enter].
  8. Follow the installation instructions.
