Microsoft Office 2016: Upgrade Your University Computer

Microsoft Office 2016 is now available for faculty and staff office computers. The main purpose of this help page is to provide instructions for upgrading your office computer to the new software package. The Office 2016 suite contains familiar programs such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, among others.

Upgrade Your University Computer to Office 2016

All faculty and staff receiving new University computers in the summer of 2016 or later will find Office 2016 already installed.

If you are not receiving a new computer this summer, you can still upgrade your office computer to Office 2016 from the CedarNet menu. (You must be on campus to run the upgrade.)

Note:

If you are running this upgrade from a Windows 10 computer, skip to step 3 and click on the CedarNet icon from the desktop.

  1. Close out of any open Office documents, spreadsheets, etc.
  2. Click on the Start button > choose "All Programs."
  3. Click "CedarNet" > Choose "Office Suites."
  4. Click "MS Office 2016 ProPlus Installation."
  5. Older versions of Office will be uninstalled and Office 2016 will be installed in its place.

Any older documents can be opened and edited with the new software package.

Techcart, Classroom, and Lab Computers

Information Technology staff will upgrade all techcarts, classroom, and lab computers to Microsoft Office 2016 during July 2016. No action is needed from you.

Office 2016 for Your Home Computer

Faculty and staff are eligible to purchase Office 2016 at a discounted price under the Microsoft Home Use Program.
