How to Install a Google Chrome Mailto Extension
When you click on an email link on the web, Mailto for Gmail automatically opens a separate tab with a new compose message that is directed towards the email address you clicked on. The Mailto extension allows you to quickly send an email without having to copy and paste the email address into a new message.
Note:
These instructions are specifically for adding a Mailto extension to Gmail accounts. If your laptop already has a default email application (Mac Mail, Outlook, etc.), you may need to change the settings for that application before this will work.
To Install a Google Chrome Mailto Extension
- Log in to your Gmail account.
- Add a Google Chrome Mailto extension to your account using the provided link.
- Click on the green [Add to Chrome] button. The box should then say, "Added to Chrome."
- Next time you click on an email link, a new tab will open up with a Gmail "New Message" box.
Note:
The extension will only work if you are logged in to your Gmail account. If you are not logged in, you will be directed to a Gmail login page.
