One Thousand Days Transformed - The Campaign for Cedarville

Dear Family, Friends, Alumni, and Donors,

On behalf of Cedarville University, Samuel, Rachel, Joy, and I pray you have a blessed Christmas and a wonderful start to the new year. Please allow me to share a few special moments from this past year.

Samuel turned 13 this year. He ran cross country and played soccer this fall. His love for music continues as he takes lessons for drums, piano, and guitar. He loves our HeartSong music teams, and all three of his music teachers have served or currently serve in HeartSong. He continues to participate in worship groups at our church, Grace Baptist, for his middle school youth group. He still loves video games and getting lunch with his college friends.

Rachel will turn 20 this month. She finished her freshman year at Cedarville, making the Dean’s List both semesters.
She plans to participate in a Global Outreach (GO) trip to Utah during the upcoming spring break. She changed her
major to communication with minors in biblical counseling and women’s ministry. She has always been gifted in writing, speaking, and debating, so we are not surprised. She has enjoyed living in Maddox for the second year and enjoys the girls she lives with. This fall, she participated with the Students for Life organization on campus, carrying the banner for the Ohio March for Life. Rachel also volunteers at a local pregnancy support center.

Joy teaches classes in the women’s ministry minor at Cedarville and homeschools Samuel. She loves attending local high school events, community activities, and University events and discipling young women. She shines in her ministry of hospitality and loves our dogs, Duchess (a German shepherd) and Jacket (a yellow lab mix). Joy visited Disneyland with friends and Disney World with our kids this year. She also planned our 19-day family vacation to Europe this summer. We visited Athens, Ephesus, Philippi, Rome, London, and several Greek islands.

I have been so thankful for my family this past year, and I really enjoyed not having to make any decisions while on family vacation. Joy had every detail planned. I just needed to know what time to show up, what to wear, and what to eat. It was awesome! I have also enjoyed preparing for and preaching through Joshua in chapel at Cedarville, and I always look forward to teaching Ephesians at Word of Life Bible Institute. I am thankful for the amazing and gifted
leadership team at Cedarville. God has provided me with good friends. I enjoy spending time with them while playing golf and hunting. I was able to fill the freezer again this year with a beautiful 10-point Michigan buck and an 8-point Ohio buck.

God continues to bless Cedarville beyond anything we could have ever dreamed. Here are a few highlights:

  • We saw lives transformed at Fall Bible Conference, as many students professed faith or rededicated their lives to Christ.
  • We welcomed our largest freshman class ever of 1,176 students, up 15.6% over last year.
  • We experienced another record enrollment of 6,384, up 17% over last year.
  • We set a record freshman-to-sophomore retention rate at 89.4%.
  • We now have 43 Christian School Partners in 12 states. Let us know if your Christian school would like to offer Cedarville classes for college credit.
  • We opened our new 350-bed dorm and dedicated the Scharnberg Business and Communication Center.
  • We unveiled our new Stinger statue made of stainless steel.
  • Our economic impact study revealed that we had 132,000 visitors last year, volunteered 295,000 hours of service, and contributed $472M in economic impact to Ohio. Wow!
  • The Lord provided a $15M lead gift for the new Academic Center.
  • We raised more than $1M last year for GO trips, and $25M has been given for scholarships as part of our 1000 Days Transformed fundraising campaign. Every gift matters as it helps our students. Thank you to those who gave.

We are now within $5M of funding the new Academic Center, which will house Education and Social Work; History and Government; English, Literature, and Modern Languages; and Psychology. Please pray about joining us as we seek to provide quality spaces for student learning and faculty interactions that transform lives for God’s glory. Please join me in giving Him praise for the great things He has done.

Finally, we would appreciate your prayers. Would you pray for God to grant us wisdom from above, to continue to bless our efforts to serve our Lord faithfully, and to send a revival to the cornfields of southwest Ohio?

I pray that you will join our family in taking time this holiday season to celebrate the birth of King Jesus. It is through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection that we have been saved and have the incredible opportunity to serve Him on this earth. May the grace and peace of God be with you.

    In Christ,

Thomas, Joy, Rachel, and Samuel White
