About the Reserve Officers' Training Corps Program

ROTC at Cedarville Brings Life Change

Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) is a college-based, military officer commissioning program. It is designed as a college elective that focuses on leadership development, problem-solving, strategic planning, and professional ethics. ROTC training will help you gain the confidence and self-discipline necessary to succeed in college and beyond.

You may try ROTC during your freshman and sophomore years, without being obligated to serve in the military. If you decide you are up to the challenge, you will continue the advanced courses of ROTC while completing your degree.

After completing the ROTC program, you will be commissioned as an officer to serve on active duty or with the Reserves or National Guard.

Cedarville offers ROTC programs for the United States Army and Air Force. The program is open to all majors, but both branches have a high need for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) majors, as well as nursing.

Program Highlights

Develop Leadership Skills - During classes, leadership labs, physical training, and field training exercises, you will learn firsthand what it takes to lead others, motivate groups, and conduct missions as an officer in the United States Army or Air Force.

Build Confidence - You will gain the confidence and self-discipline necessary to succeed in college. As you progress, you will gain skill and experience in taking charge of activities, setting goals, managing people and resources, and making decisions in demanding circumstances.

Pay for College - ROTC offers a variety of scholarships that will help relieve the financial burden of your college education. A variety of full and partial scholarships are available, and certain scholarships have specific requirements. ROTC scholarships can be used to cover tuition and most lab fees. Also, you’ll receive an annual textbook allowance and a monthly stipend ranging from $300 in your freshman year to $500 in your senior year.

What Can You Do with ROTC Training?

ROTC will prepare you to succeed in any competitive environment. The leadership training and experiences that you will have in ROTC will provide you with a foundation to become commissioned officers in the United States Air Force or Army, facing challenging and rewarding career opportunities while using the most advanced technology in the world.

Upon completion of the ROTC program, you will be commissioned as a second lieutenant and will embark on your first assignment with the military. The careers that await cadets include everything from pilots to medical careers, to engineers to police officers. ROTC graduates start their career at the management level. The experience they obtain as leaders and the technical training they receive translate to valuable, marketable experience outside of the military.

Opportunities to Learn Outside the Classroom

Varied Experiences -You will be able to participate in challenging and rewarding activities such as skydiving, piloting a sailplane, trips to active military bases, orientation flights, official military functions and ceremonies, and one-on-one mentoring with an active officer.

Professional Development -You will be able participate in a variety of professional development training at Air Force and Army schools and in specialized courses for things like air assault, basic airborne, mountain warfare, northern warfare, and foreign language immersion.

Internships - Summer internship programs provide you as a cadet with an opportunity to exercise specialized language, technical, or research skills in fields such as the chaplaincy, public affairs, intelligence, general security, nuclear security, medical, nursing, and engineering.

Foreign Immersion Experience - As an Air Force or Army ROTC cadet, you can compete for an opportunity for immersion in more than 20 countries. These opportunities expose you to everyday life in different cultures and intensifies language study, which helps produce commissioned officers who possess the right blend of language and cultural skills required to support global operations in the 21st Century.

Program Curriculum

Air Force ROTC Curriculum - Air Force ROTC courses are offered through Cedarville University in collaboration with the Air Force ROTC detachment located at Wright State University. Air Force ROTC courses are included in the Cedarville University course schedule for registration purposes, leadership laboratories and most of the classes are conducted on the campus of Wright State University. Cedarville University provides transportation for off-site classes.

Army ROTC Curriculum - Army ROTC courses are offered through Cedarville University in collaboration with the Army ROTC detachment located at Central State University. Army ROTC courses are included in the Cedarville University course schedule for registration purposes, all classes, labs, and physical training are conducted on the campus of Central State University. Cedarville University provides transportation for off-site classes.
