Biography

Julie Deardorff is responsible for collection development and management at the Centennial Library and supervises the Collection Services Department. She works closely with faculty to determine which resources should be acquired for the library, reviews all new courses and programs for library implications, and serves on the University’s curriculum committees. She is also the coordinator of Cedarville's Library Careers Program, which provides undergraduate students with opportunities to learn about careers in libraries and related fields. Julie is a member of the American Library Association (ALA), the Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO), and the Association of Christian Librarians (ACL). She has presented at ALAO and ACL conferences and served as Chair of ALAO’s Collection Management Interest Group. Julie has worked at Cedarville University since 1996.

Why Cedarville?: God led me to Cedarville when my husband was hired as an English professor. As a public children's librarian, I wasn't planning to make the move to the academic realm, but Library Dean Lynn Brock convinced me to give it a try. I found that I enjoyed working with faculty and students to build Cedarville's collection of print and electronic resources. God also provided me with many opportunities to work with students who were thinking about becoming librarians. Over time, those informal mentoring relationships transformed into the Library Careers Program, including teaching library internship and independent study courses and creating the annual Library Careers Dinner.
