Andrew Straw, PharmD

Biography

Dr. Andrew Straw's teaching and clinical interests are focused on chronic disease management and building strong patient relationships through direct patient care services. In the classroom Dr. Straw teaches respiratory medicine, over-the-counter medications, and men's health topics. He enjoys using unique and active learning strategies to engage students in the material. At his primary practice site, Rocking Horse Center Community Health Center, Dr. Straw serves as the founding Residency Program Director for a PGY-1 Community-Based Residency program. At the site he helped to establish collaborative agreements permitting the pharmacy team to initiate, discontinue, and adjust medications for patients with a variety of chronic disease states. Dr. Straw loves to utilize students at this site and integrate them into medication counseling, lifestyle coaching, motivational interviewing, and therapeutic plan development. His research interests include the impact of pharmacists in primary care, the practice of self-care, and the impact of various educational strategies.
