Songwriting Competition Open to All Students

by Ryan Bower, Assistant Director of Public Relations

Cedarville University’s Department of Music and Worship is accepting submissions for its annual Songwriting Competition. The contest is open to all Cedarville students, and submissions must be received by February 18.

The competition’s goal is to develop musical resources for congregational singing, as well as highlight the musical talents of Cedarville’s student body.

“The heart of the worship degree is to prepare students to serve the body of Christ,” said Roger O’Neel, Ph.D., associate professor of worship and director of the worship program. “This competition challenges our students to write theologically sound, musically compelling songs for congregations.”

The contest will be judged by several award-winning Christian musicians including Dove Award winners Meredith Andrews and Geron Davis, as well as famed modern hymnist Keith Getty. The trio will rate all entries and provide feedback for the aspiring songwriters.

The winners, who will be announced in April, will receive $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place.

Students must submit an original song, including audio demo and a chord chart or lead sheet, to Susan Plemons, assistant professor of worship. Submissions can be sent via campus mail or email to susanplemons@cedarville.edu.
