English Program Hosts Distinguished Author

by Natalia Kirychuk, Public Relations Writer

David McGlynn, author and associate professor of English at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, will be spending the day at Cedarville University on January 23. During his visit, McGlynn will record a podcast, teach a masters class and lead a reading and book signing, providing many opportunities for student interaction.

McGlynn has authored “A Door in the Ocean: A Memoir,” and his collection of short stories titled, “The End of the Straight and Narrow: Stories,” which won the 2008 Utah Book Award, was a finalist for the 2009 Steven Turner award for Best First Fiction. His stories and essays have appeared in The Huffington Post, Men’s Health, Best American Sports Writing, Real Simple, Parents, The New York Times and many literary journals.

McGlynn’s day at Cedarville will begin with a podcast interview hosted by Isaac Mayeux, assistant professor of English. He will teach a master’s level course in the afternoon, before concluding his day with a book signing and private dinner.

“My goal for the event is to support the literary community on campus and for students to hear from another voice aside from their professors,” said Andrew Graff, assistant professor of English at Cedarville and a former student of McGlynn.
