Spring Career Fair Brings 100 Companies

by Madi Cannon, Public Relations Writer

One of the largest career fairs in Greene County, with close to 100 local, regional and national employers, will take place Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in Cedarville University’s Doden Field House. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

With the number of companies growing as the career fair approaches, some of the current big name firms planning to attend include Honda, Cummins, Reynolds and Reynolds, Speedway and Walgreens. In addition, many graduate schools and ministry organizations will participate.

In addition to finding potential jobs or internships at the career fair, participants can explore career options and make professional contacts. College students can also receive a free professional photo for their LinkedIn account.

Jeff Reep, director of career services, has advice for students as they prepare for the fair. “Every time you go to a career fair, get your name badge, talk to someone and chart your course; you’re going to get better at it,” said Reep. “Every year the stakes get higher. So every year you want to practice these skills, so when the stakes are high, you’re prepared.”

Career Services not only helps individuals with job placement, but it also provides them with resources to explore careers and interview techniques to help secure a job. The university’s career services department also holds workshops throughout the academic year on topics including resume development, cover letters and mock interviews with certified professional career coaches.

According to Reep, students who regularly sharpen their career skills are more attractive to employers. “Our students have good character and a good work ethic,” commented Reep. “We have outstanding professors who prepare students well, and because many of our programs focus on practical, hands-on experience — not just book and theory — the students are better prepared to talk with prospective employers.”

Cedarville has hosted career fairs for more than 20 years, contributing to its over 97 percent job and grad school placement rate. The national average for six-month placement rates is 78.9 percent, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,760 undergraduate, graduate and online students in more than 100 areas of study. Founded in 1887, Cedarville is recognized nationally for its authentic Christian community, rigorous academic programs, strong graduation and retention rates, accredited professional and health science offerings and leading student satisfaction ratings.
