Former Spanish professor takes principal position in Mexico

Some might consider a career change from college to high school to be an odd move, but Erin Weber knows it’s a God connection.

Weber, an assistant professor of Spanish at Cedarville University from 2009 to May 2017, traded her lesson plans for a principal’s position at Puebla Christian School in Puebla, Mexico, this fall. She stepped down from her role at Cedarville in May and left for Puebla in early August.

Weber led four mission trips to Mexico during her time at Cedarville and developed relationships with the people working at the school. After a spring 2016 mission trip, administrators at the school mentioned to Weber that they were looking for a principal. Weber began to consider the possibilities. When she found out they still needed a principal for the 2017-2018 school year, she took a step of faith and sent an email to the school administrators.

“I didn't know if this was where I was supposed to be,” Weber said. “If this was where God wanted me, I told him that he would have to make it crystal clear and move some ‘mountains’ and, indeed, he has,” said Weber.

During the past eight months, Weber saw each “mountain” move: student loans paid off, house prepared for sale and almost 100 percent of support raised.

“It’s been a crazy ride, but God has, of course, been faithful,” Weber added.

While Weber thoroughly enjoyed her time at Cedarville, she sees the move to Puebla as a God-given passion. “I’m excited to work with the group of people who I’ve been able to see each year during the mission trips,” said Weber. “I can’t wait to experience that culture and become a part of it. I completed graduate studies in Mexico and have always wanted to go back.”

While at Cedarville, Weber had the opportunity to train future teachers, observing them and providing feedback.

“This focus on teacher-learning and student education at Cedarville has really prepared me for this new role,” said Weber. “I couldn’t begin to be ready without my Cedarville experience. I feel like I've learned more about classroom instruction and providing instructional leadership in the time I've been at here. I also hope to be able to recruit teachers from Cedarville's future pools of job-seekers.”
