National adoption and foster care expert speaking at Cedarville

by Michaela Carpenter, Public Relations Writer

Chelsea Sobolik, who works on adoption and foster care policy for the United States House of Representatives, will speak on “From the Most Unlikely Place: Reflections on Life, Faith, and Public Policy” on Monday, Feb. 12, at Cedarville University. The event, which is sponsored by CU's American Enterprise Institute Executive Council, begins at 7 pm in the Dixon Ministry Center’s Recital Hall.

The talk is open to the public and there is no fee for admission.

Sobolik recently completed her first book, “Longing for Motherhood: Holding On to Hope in the Midst of Childlessness,” set for release March 6, 2018.

Adoption and foster care are important topics at Cedarville, and ones that the university seeks to support in a variety of ways. In 2013, Cedarville introduced the Foster Care Scholarship, which provides full tuition for one new student each year who has been in the foster care system. In 2015, Cedarville implemented an adoption assistance benefit, providing financial support for faculty and staff members who adopt a child.

In October 2017, CU Women, an organization of female faculty, staff and friends of Cedarville University, partnered with foster support organization Together We Rise to provide duffel bags for foster children. The group raised money to pack 67 bags and donated them to the Bair Foundation, a faith-based foster and adoption agency in Dayton, Ohio.

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,963 undergraduate, graduate, and online students in more than 150 areas of study. Founded in 1887, Cedarville is recognized nationally for its authentic Christian community, rigorous academic programs, strong graduation and retention rates, accredited professional and health science offerings, and leading student satisfaction ratings.
