Leadership, Faith and Politics: Life in the Public Square

by Hannah Fair, Student Public Relations Writer

Since she graduated from Cedarville University almost 10 years ago, Leanna Baumer has served with Congress, on political campaigns and in nonprofit leadership. She will share about her experience during “Fit to Serve: Entering the Public Square as a Christian” on Wednesday, April 3. The event is free and open to the public.

Baumer, a 2010 Cedarville grad, currently serves as executive director at Assist Pregnancy Center (APC) in northern Virginia, a pregnancy medical clinic serving patients in the Washington, D.C., area. She manages APC’s staff, operations, community outreach and development efforts. Prior to joining the Assist team in 2015, Baumer worked for a public policy organization and in the U.S. House of Representatives on legislative issues related to the sanctity of human life and the family.

“I look forward to sharing a few lessons I have learned about how Christians can prepare to enter the public square and how we can stay focused on our ultimate hope in Christ once there,” said Baumer.

For the past six years, Baumer has also continued to pursue her love of history by serving in historical interpretation at George Washington’s historic home, Mount Vernon. She received her Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Cedarville University.

During her time at Cedarville, Baumer studied abroad in Jerusalem and Dublin, completed the honors program and completed two different internships. “My time at Cedarville equipped me with a love for learning and a desire to understand how a biblical worldview ought to shape how I work and how I see our world,” said Baumer.

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 4,193 undergraduate, graduate, and online students in more than 150 areas of study. Founded in 1887, Cedarville is recognized nationally for its authentic Christian community, rigorous academic programs, strong graduation and retention rates, accredited professional and health science offerings, and leading student satisfaction ratings.
