For Jim Leightenheimer, Associate Professor of Communication, the decision to return to his alma mater was a pretty sound one. In fact, you might say it was a Resound-ing success.

Leightenheimer graduated from Cedarville in 1980 and found work as a radio broadcaster for several years in Dayton, Ohio, at WFCJ-FM. He came back to Cedarville when his former professor, Wes Baker, wondered if he might lead the communications department expansion into radio and audio production.
Fondly known as Mr. L by students and alumni, Leightenheimer returned not just to teach but also to inaugurate the school’s first student-run radio network. WSRN began broadcasting in 1990 to students in the residence halls, but today reaches an international audience on the World Wide Web as Resound Radio.

Mr. L. has had a profound influence on the careers of many radio and television broadcast professionals, such as ABC news correspondent Paula Faris and WAY-FM afternoon show host Joy McBride.
Resound Radio began as a research project in Leightenheimer’s senior year at Cedarville. Resound celebrates its 30th birthday this year.
