Writing Center consultants are available to help you complete any of your writing tasks, no matter where you are in your writing process. Our consultants come from diverse majors and are enthusiastic about helping you make your writing the best it can be.

How Should I Prepare for My Session?

To make the best use of your time with a writing consultant, please:

  • Bring your computer
  • Be prepared to pull up the assignment guidelines in Canvas
  • Ensure that you can digitally share your paper with the consultant, either through Google Docs or email
  • Prepare a list of specific questions or concerns so the consultant can tailor the session to your needs

I'm an Online Student

Our consultants are available for either face-to-face or online sessions! To sign up for an online session, make sure you click the "online consultation" box instead of the "face-to-face" box on the form.

When it’s time for your session, go to the Writing Center schedule, select your session, and click "Start or Join Online Consultation." This link will take you to our online whiteboard where your consultant will meet you for the session. Be sure to test your microphone and webcam before entering the session.

The Writing Center is open for online appointments during all normal hours of operation. We are closed for online appointments during normal school breaks and May session.

I'm a Graduate Student

If you’re a graduate student, not only do you have access to all the same resources our undergraduates do, such as face-to-face and online sessions, but you can also schedule an asynchronous graduate session.

Asynchronous sessions are different than synchronous sessions in that you are not scheduling a real-time, or simultaneous, meeting with the writing consultant. Instead, you upload your paper on your time, select a consultant on the schedule, and receive the consultant's written response at the end of the session. Consultants review your paper within the timeframe that you selected, so if you select a 30-minute session, the consultant will spend 30 minutes on your paper. You may choose to reserve up to an hour of the consultant's time for your paper review.

To choose an asynchronous session, select the asynchronous option on the form, link your paper, and make a note of what you would like the consultant to focus on. During the session, the consultant will make comments on your paper while you work on other projects (or recover from all the hard work you've been doing). At the end of the session, you will receive the consultant's feedback in an email!

Hiring Process:


  1. Fill out our application form, which is linked below.
  2. Ask two Cedarville professors who have read your writing to fill out our recommendation form.
  3. Submit two college-level writing samples (at least one must include source citations).
  4. Attend an interview with the Writing Center Director.
  5. Take the one-credit hour training course (ENG-3550: Writing Center Theory and Training, Thursdays from 4–4:50 p.m.).
