Graphic Design Students Put Skills to Practice
Two Cedarville students used their graphic designs skills in their internships with AIA.
A pair of graphic design majors from Cedarville University used their gifts to make a difference with Athletes in Action (AIA) this past year. Rebecca Mattison, a 2015 graduate from Chelsea, Michigan, and Madison Grapes, a senior graphic design major from Irwin, Pennsylvania, spent time at AIA in Xenia, Ohio, as graphic design interns producing creative materials.
AIA creates environments of faith in athletics around the world. AIA provides training and support resources for athletes and team chaplains to use their platform in sports to reach others for Jesus Christ.
Mattison, a current AIA intern, created applications and brochures for the 2016 Olympic chaplain position.
“Whether it was critiques from professors or having to finish a project on a tight deadline, Cedarville helped prepare me to serve clients who often make last-minute changes to projects,” said Mattison.
Grapes, who interned with AIA last spring, created the new Struggle and Triumph logo. AIA’s Struggle and Triumph program compiles testimonies of several Olympic athletes in a DVD format to inspire other athletes around the world. The Struggle and Triumph DVDs are regularly translated into other languages to help reach more people.
Grapes said her Cedarville education was a key to being prepared for the design process from start to finish.
“Because of great instruction from my professors, I felt confident using design programs like InDesign and Illustrator, as well as packaging my graphics properly for orders and prints,” explained Grapes.
