Cedarville University will host a special Veterans Day chapel on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center to recognize and honor veterans.

Dr. Daryl Smith, associate professor of management, will speak during the opening portion of the program. Smith served for 24 years in the United States Air Force.

In addition to Smith’s message, the service will include a color guard, provided by Cedarville’s ROTC organization, as well as other contributions from campus organizations.

“It’s good to see veterans receive recognition for their service,” Dr. Chet Jenkins, assistant professor of music and director of the wind symphony and jazz band, said. Jenkins directs the Veterans Day chapel each year, which includes numerous musical elements.

“Each year we do things a little differently to find ways of telling stories of veterans and their experiences during the course of the service,” Jenkins explained. “I use the wind symphony — one of the ensembles I direct — for music most years.”

The central element of the chapel is recognizing veterans, which is the final component of the service. Veterans are invited to the Jeremiah Chapel stage when the wind symphony plays their service song.

“I particularly enjoy the opportunity to recognize veterans at the end of the service,” Jenkins added. “I love the interactions that I see them have with each other on the stage when they come up.”

The service will be livestreamed, and it will also be available for access afterward on the Cedarville University chapel archives webpage.
