Cedarville student Crissa Esse has combined her love of writing and biology for a highly -anticipated summer internship with Answers in Genesis (AiG). Esse, a junior professional writing and information design student from Southgate, Michigan, recently accepted a content writer internship with AiG, located in Hebron, Kentucky, that will take place in the summer of 2024.

Esse has envisioned working for Answers in Genesis since high school because she believed her love of writing and biology would intersect her support of Answers in Genesis’ mission and her ability to enable Christians to defend their faith.

While Esse dreamed of working for AiG, she never saw an opportunity because Answers in Genesis didn’t provide an internship program for college students. That was the case until 2023 when AiG introduced its Embark Internship program designed to advance college students’ education and missional values with career opportunities with the worldwide ministry. Esse eagerly applied for one of the internship positions for the summer in 2023 but did not get an offer. Instead, she stayed at Cedarville University to work in the university’s career services department.

Although this was not her first choice, it turned out to be a great opportunity that ultimately opened the door for an internship with Answers in Genesis.

Through her work on campus, Esse attended the International Conference on Creationism that was hosted by Cedarville University. At this event, Esse networked with a staff member from Answers in Genesis, who then recommended her for an internship position for the summer of 2024.

With assistance from her current staff members in career services, Esse retooled her resume and cover letter and re-submitted an application for a writing internship.

The extra work proved successful. She is now prepared to step into a writer’s role with AiG. In this role, she will provide written copy that AiG can use in its exhibits at the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum.

“I can see that through this internship, I will be able to use my skills and interests to glorify God by proclaiming the authority of the Bible,” said Esse.

From her initial rejection, Esse gleaned invaluable lessons, cultivating patience and perseverance while diligently preparing for future opportunities. Recognizing the significance of these attributes, she acknowledges their pivotal role in securing her 2024 internship at Answers in Genesis.
