About the Prepharmacy Program

Why Study Pharmaceutical Sciences at Cedarville?

With Cedarville's prepharmacy program, you'll satisfy the requirements needed to enter our Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program in just two or three years. After completing your first year of the graduate pharmacy program, you will earn your Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) degree, equipped with a foundation for advanced study in pharmacy and prepared for a variety of careers in the field.

Choose the accelerated two-year prepharmacy program to complete your entire pharmacy education in just six years. High school seniors planning to major in pharmacy may qualify for Cedarville's Early Assurance Program, guaranteeing a spot in the PharmD program and freeing you to fully enjoy your undergraduate experience.

The final two years of your BSPS curriculum are integrated with the graduate pharmacy program, allowing you to earn a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a Bible minor, and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in six or seven years.

Future Thinking — The School of Pharmacy's Center for Pharmacy Innovation seeks creative, biblical solutions today to meet the healthcare challenges of tomorrow.

Innovative Curriculum — Challenging academics, featuring contemporary pharmacy topics and built on a liberal arts core, will prepare you for advanced, professional pharmacy study. You take pharmacy courses every semester as part of the prepharmacy curriculum; many schools wait until the graduate portion of the curriculum to cover this same content.

Mentoring Faculty — You will study with and be advised by professors who have high academic credentials as well as extensive clinical and research experience. They are leaders in the pharmacy profession, recognized by their peers, consulted by the media, and sought after as trainers and presenters. State-of-the-Art Facilities — You will learn and discover in the spacious, award-winning Health Sciences Center, which features the latest in instructional technology and pharmacy laboratory and simulation equipment. What Can You Do With Prepharmacy?

You will graduate equipped with a strong foundation to begin your professional Doctor of Pharmacy program. Most students in the BSPS program move directly and seamlessly into the final years of Cedarville’s Doctor of Pharmacy program. A few pursue other graduate programs. More than 90% of students completing the BSPS degree at Cedarville University will be successful in completing their Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Medicine, or other graduate program.

Students completing the BSPS degree alone may be considered for the following types of positions:

  • Lab Technician
  • Pharmaceutical Industry Sales Representative
  • Pharmacist Assistants in Managed Care
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Researcher or Research Assistant

Graduate and professional programs and employers welcome Cedarville University graduates each year. It is important to note that most professional career fields you may pursue require additional education, experience, and/or licensure beyond the completion of your Cedarville University undergraduate degree.

Opportunities to Learn Outside the Classroom

You will have opportunities for cocurricular experiences to enhance your coursework.

Hands-On Experiences — You can work as a pharmacy technician or research assistant.

Outreach — You may participate in a short-term medical missions trip.

Student Organizations — Join a student chapter of a professional organization to explore the pharmaceutical industry and network with professionals. Experiences include field trips to area pharmacies, special presentations by practicing pharmacists, pharmacy research projects with fellow students or professors, service projects in the region, and medical missions trips.

Program Curriculum

Building on your general education and Bible minor foundation, you will take core science courses and a series of classes that introduce you to the pharmacy profession. You will also take courses that will build qualitative research skills, equipping you for the research expected in your professional pharmacy curriculum.
