Four Convictions of Those Who Turned the World Upside Down — 9/18/2024 10:00 AM

Today's speaker is Dr. J.D. Greear, Lead Pastor of The Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham, NC. Speaking from Acts 7:55 - 8:4, Pastor Greear talks about the role God has for each of us in His global mission to save the lost.

Notes

Today’s chapel was led by J.D Greear, Lead Pastor of The Summit Church in Durham, North Carolina. Greear focused on the main point of how God used an ordinary person to share His Gospel. As we studied through Acts 7, the students learned from the example of Stephen as an example of an ordinary person that the Lord used for His glory.

After expanding upon Stephen’s story, the outline focused on four convictions of those who turn the world upside down.

1. God wants to use me.

Every follower of Christ is called into ministry. We see throughout the Bible that believers are transformed and then go out to spread God’s Word.  Matthew 4:19 illustrates this point. It says, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (ESV) No matter who you are, if you give your life to Christ, God will use you for His glory. You don’t have to be a pastor or missionary to spread His Word. You can choose today to make a difference for His Kingdom.

2. The Holy Spirit fills me.

You may want to spread God’s Word but are too scared that you won’t know how to do it. The good news is that we have the Holy Spirit living in us. He empowers and equips us to do bold things in His name. It isn’t about your abilities in ministry. God just wants you to be available and willing to go.

Ask the Holy Spirit this: Where does He want you to be? What relationships does He want you to be in? How can He use you to make a difference today?

3. As Jesus was to me, so I will be to others.

Following Jesus means to look at your life as a sacrifice for others the way that Jesus sacrificed Himself for you. How can you live your life with the intent to make His name known to others?

4. Jesus is worth it.

Living for Jesus is not an easy walk and will lead to persecution from the world. You are going to have to decide what success in life looks like, because it may even come down to life and death. What are you willing to risk to make His name known?
