Jesus: The Master Teacher on Prayer — 9/30/2024 10:00 AM
Today's Alumni Week speaker is Dr. Paul Dixon, Chancellor of Cedarville University. Dr. Dixon encourages the student body to dedicate themselves to a life of prayer, particularly praying for those that need to be saved.
Notes
The Chancellor of Cedarville, Dr. Paul Dixon, taught the chapel about prayer and shared his testimony. The focal point of the message was centered around Luke 11:1, which states: “Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.’”
Dr. Dixon taught the chapel that Jesus is the master teacher of prayer. Not only did He tell us how to pray, but He demonstrated it. He prayed consistently and without ceasing. We are to pray just as the Lord has taught us. Dr. Dixon even graciously provided an outline with topics to pray about each day. You can view the prayer list below:
Prayer List:
- Monday: Unsaved Friends
- Tuesday: Christian Friends
- Wednesday: Local Church
- Thursday: Camps and Christian Schools
- Friday: Missionaries
- Saturday: Personal Requests
- Sunday: Day of Praise
Following this message, Dr. Dixon also gave his own personal testimony of God’s grace throughout his life.
Dr. Dixon became the eighth president of Cedarville College in 1978. A graduate of Tennessee Temple University and Temple Baptist Theological Seminary, Dr. Dixon spent 14 years as an evangelist before becoming President of Cedarville. In 1986, while president, he earned his doctorate in higher education from the University of Cincinnati. He also holds an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from his alma mater and the honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
As Dr. Dixon concluded his 25 years as president, he modeled the life verse that he and his wife, Pat, chose: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he delighteth in his way" (Psalm 37:23). The Dixon Ministry Center, opened in 1996, was named in honor of Paul and Pat Dixon. In May 2003, Dr. Dixon became the Chancellor of Cedarville University, serving under presidents Dr. William E. Brown (2003–12) and Dr. Thomas White (2013 through present day). Dr. White is currently carrying the torch passed by Dr. Dixon through One Thousand Days Transformed: The Campaign for Cedarville, the largest fundraising campaign in the University’s history. This initiative will expand the University’s capacity, minimize student debt and maximize affordability, transform lives in and out of the classroom, and provide for the future of Cedarville.
