New Testament | John (Part 2)
In Dr. Michael McKay’s lecture, he walks through the Gospel of John’s major “I am” self-identifications — Bread of Life, Light of the World, Door and Good Shepherd, Resurrection and the Life, Way Truth and Life, and True Vine — tying each to Old Testament background and practical application for faith and discipleship.

Dr. McKay’s classroom lecture on the Gospel of John emphasizes how each evangelist crafts a distinct portrait of Jesus and why John’s “I am” statements matter for theology and discipleship. McKay connects Jesus’s metaphors to Old Testament images — manna, Feast of Tabernacles, the shepherd-king, the vineyard — and explains John’s theological priorities: Jesus is from the Father, Jesus is revelation and truth, and belief in Jesus is the human means to receive salvation. The lecture highlights the binary contrasts John uses — light and darkness, life and death, blessing and curse — and applies those contrasts pastorally: abiding in Christ produces fruit and life, rejecting Christ results in evaluation. Practical application includes the necessity of believing in Jesus, the already and not yet of resurrection, and the call to faithful living that yields eternal fruit.
